Ambiguity is one of the important elements of literary texts and plays an important role in the evaluation of various literary works. Given the importance of ambiguity in literature, this paper attempts to explore the evolution of ambiguity in Islamic rhetoric, as well as analyze its types, examples, and aesthetic factors. This research aims to identify the views of rhetoricians on ambiguity, understand their definition of artistic ambiguity and the distinction they make between it and non-artistic ambiguity, and identify examples of artistic ambiguity and its aesthetic aspects. The results of this research show that rhetoricians, although they opposed complication, complexity, and obscurity, and criticized them, some of them, such as Abdulqaher Jorjani, by raising discussions about the role of ambiguity in motivating the reader to read the literary text and the pleasure of the reader from it, had reached a precise understanding of artistic ambiguity and non-artistic ambiguity, which was later less noticed by later rhetoricians. The study of the aspects of ambiguity and its examples in Hafez's poetry also shows that the musical, linguistic, and visual aspects of ambiguity have a great impact on attracting the audience and also increasing the aesthetic value of the literary work, and a great poet like Hafez has been able to use his genius and creativity to use various artistic ambiguities to present his poetry in its most sublime form to the audience.
