One of the major cultural elements is music. It plays important parts in many social affairs. It could hardly be missing in religious services, political ceremonies, or sport events. It gives a musical entity to national anthems which serve to introduce nations to the world. Music is also an emotional ingredient responsible for happy or sad flavor in many social ceremonies. It is an effective means of enhancing soldiers’ morale at war. During political revolutions, musicians do a really good job to create soical solidarity. So the revolutionaries may owe a great deal of their fraternity to the consolidating impact of music.
As for the factors determining the type of music for a certain society, the ongoing circumstances of the time are of prime significance, Wartime music is therefore assumed to be apparently different from that of peace time. Iran-Iraq war music as compared to the postwar music may be a good example. As another example, the socio-political circumstances before May 23, 1997 (as compared to those since the end of the war) brought about a different type of music in Iran.
The foregoing is a short introduction to how the society and music interact. The present article discusses such matters as the link between the social circumstances and music, social solidarity and music, socio - ethnic groups and music, politics and music, and religion and music, all the discussions contribute in details to the elaboration of the topic of the article.
